Ethan Sobotta

is a versatile Seattle-area bassist and educator, equally comfortable performing symphonic music, jazz, and rockabilly on acoustic bass and rock, funk, and pop on electric bass.

Ethan has established himself in Seattle as a strong and reliable musician with a wide range of talents, performing in the pit orchestras of many theaters in the Seattle area, as well as with several local artists. He is an active string and jazz clinician throughout the Pacific Northwest, and can be seen performing and recording regularly with Johnny 7 and the Black Crabs, Sam Cobra, Void Hunter, The Jaguar Jets, The Harmonic Pocket, Ron Peters, and many others.

Ethan began playing bass at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, where he studied with James Clute, former Associate Principal Bass of the Minnesota Orchestra. Since receiving his undergraduate degree, he has studied with Peter Lloyd of the Colburn School of Music and and soloist/composer Patrick Neher. He has also performed in masterclasses with Fraçois Rabbath, John Clayton, and Kristin Korb. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire and a master’s degree from Central Washington University.
